GUMI TRIVIA
- Gumi has proven to be quite a popular Vocaloid for MMD model makers and has several models compared to most other Vocaloids.
- Many Filipino fans have considered Megpoid as a special favorite among other Vocaloids and considers her as a Filipino-Japanese as well, due to her seiyuu being one. However, by tradition, Vocaloids do not assert their nationality, nor do their seiyuu's nationalities carry over to the characters they voice.
- More than 3 body models for MikuMikuDance has been created in her likeness.
- ISAO's model is available by purchase of Windows 100% magazine and MMD Starter Pack magazine.
GUMI (メグッポイド / Meguppoido)
Megpoid was voiced by Megumi Nakajima and released on June 25, 2009. [2] It comes with 3 sample VSQ files, "Happy Birthday", "be MYSELF" [3] , and "Hitori Yurari". "be MYSELF" is an original song by Nakajima.
There are five demos on the official site;[4]
Gumi was illustrated by the manga artist Yuuki Masami.
VOCALOID 3
These are 4 new vocals for her Vocaloid 3 release; Power, Whisper, Adult, Sweet.
Gumi's new voicebanks are sold as a pack or individually. Unlike the Appends of Crypton's CV series, this means you are not forced to purchase voicebanks you do not wish, and can aquire them all or only the ones you wish. This also means you do not have to pay a large sum of money for them all in one hit. However, it is cheaper to buy them in one pack if buyers wish to own all voicebanks. They will also be sold with or without the Vocaloid 3 software.
You will not need the original Vocaloid 2 version of the Megpoid software for each voicebank to work and each be able to be bought as starter vocals for the Vocaloid 3 software or without it the Vocaloid 3 software.
LEN TRIVIA
- In Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei a pair of Len and Rin look a likes are seen in the waiting queue during the auditions of the role of Meru Meru, however they do not have the Kagamine's known colors.[43]
- In the anime Maria†Holic Rin and Miku appear on a scene on episode 12. youtube
- It took 25 hours (4 hours a day) to record all the Kagamine Appends.[44]
- Some call Rin and Len the incorrect names "Lin" and/or "Ren". Though the romanized version of the word could be either, the English version has been confirmed as "Rin and Len" and since there is no dubbed version to content with, the name remain the only official names in existence for the Vocals. This is also backed up by the origins of their names as "R" (Rin)" and "L" (Len).
- Note; "L" and "R" mean "Left and Right", they are the letters you find on a set of headphones (and sometimes other equipment such as speakers). Usually there is not enough space to write "left" and "right" on headphones. "L" refers to left ear and "R" is right ear.
- On the Mikunopolis website their profile reads the following statement; "The Kagamine twins are well known for their very clear and precise vocals". Considering their history of lack of clarity and/or pronounication problems, as well as Act 2 of the software missing a pronounication entirely, this is a little bit of an exhagguration on the website hosts part. Also the statement "Just with a few tweaks here and there they could sing almost any other genres as well" is also some questionable due to their reputation of requiring previous experience to use and often at times needed more then just a few tweaks to make them work.[45]
Kagamine Len (鏡音リン ・レン)
Crypton Future Media intended to project a Vocaloid with low-teen girl's voice at first following Miku Hatsune, but there was a demand for a boy's voice, so Crypton Future Media hired a voice actress who can produce both sounds. Kagamine Rin was the first voicebank developed and introduced to the Vocaloid consumer market.[1] However, the package included two voicebanks: one for Rin and another for Len, both provided by the seiyū Asami Shimoda (下田 麻美 Shimoda Asami), Kagamine Len was unveiled later after Kagamine Rin. The package was priced at the same price as Miku Hatsune, even though there was two voicebanks in the box.[2][3]
At the time of recording in 2007, their names had not yet been decided. Their given names of Rin and Len were said to be based on "right" and "left" according to Asami Shimoda. She later confirmed in a interview after the Append release, the name itself was based on the names of Ken and Rin fromHokuto no Ken, the names were derived from a discussion about names that were familiar from her childhood. According to Asami Shimoda, Len's voice was achieved by singing within her chest, while Rin's at the top of her head.
FIGURINES
The Kagamines have had several figurines made for them. Some are based on one and not the other, other times they have had a model each but were released seperately and on some occasions together.
Kagamine Rin has had slightly more figurines then Kagamine Len. As well as having a standard Figma and Nendoroid figurines each, Rin has had a figurine based on the "Meltdown" PV. She has also appeared alongside Miku and Luka in the Good smile racing figurine promotions during the 2009 and 2010 seasons although has not appeared since in such a promotion. When the first Pullip Dolls were released, both Rin and Len were released alongside Miku, their were based on the same body model as each other.

LUKA TRIVIA
- According to KEI, who was asked to illustrate her by Crypton, due to her bilingual software, her design was made to be asymmetrical, so from different angles she would look different.
- Her design incorporates woodwind and brass instruments. The gold curl design on her chest mimics brass instruments and a circulatory organ. The jewel on her throat represents moisture in the air and water drops.[16]
- While the software was in the alpha stage of development, Crypton were hoping for a voice that sounded sexy, however, due to the level of softness in the results the vocals were unable to sound sexy.[17]
- Since the trial version had enough vocal capabilities to function as a normal Vocaloid, hackers were reported to have found out how to turn off the limit of 30 days for her 30 day trial versions.
- Some call her "Ruka" or "Luca" however this is incorrect. Though the romanized version of the word could be either, the English version has been confirmed as "Luka" and since there is no dubbed version to content with, this name remains the only official name in existence for the Vocaloid.
- Luka can be heard in the original musical score "Arisen Anew" from a Homestuck [16] album called AlterniaBound.[18]
- An old trick within the Western vocaloid fandom is to have Luka and Sonika sing together when using English. If correctly done both voices will blend together, the advantage of this is both Vocaloids effectively hide each others flaws.
- On the Mikunopolis website Luka's profile contains the statement; "In the past, creating songs with English lyrics had always been somewhat awkward, but Luka is able to sing both in Japanese, English or a mix of the two - a worldwide virtual singer". While it is true it had always been awkward to use a Japanese Vocaloid for English, it only applies to Japanese Vocaloids as there had always existed English capable Vocaloids so the English language had always been easy to access. As mentioned in "Usage for Music", she has a number of issues with her English voicebank that leave some English speakers questioning her English capabilities overall. So ironically while she has the best English level of any Japanese based Vocaloid, just how much lack of awkwardness there is to her vocal results is questionable. Lastly, she was aimed at the Japanese speaking market and was originally not intended to be a world wide release (hence the lack of an English interface).[19]
Megurine Luka (巡音ルカ)
Megurine Luka (巡音ルカ) was the third Japanese Vocaloid2 from Crypton and released on January 30, 2009.[1] Her surname combines Meguri (巡, circulate or around) and Ne (音, sound), while the name Luka invokes the homonymous Japanese words of "nagare" (流, flow) and "ka" (歌, song) or "ka" (香, scent); thus making "songs to all around the world as scent spreads." Yū Asakawa (浅川 悠) provided the voice for the "cool, somewhat mysterious" character.[2][3]
